Mausoleum preservation and renovation contributions

The mausoleum in Spring Hill Cemetery Park was built by a private contractor on City Property in 1910. The private owner went bankrupt, and the mausoleum fell into disrepair. Ultimately, the mausoleum was acquired by the City of Charleston in 1969. After acquisition of the mausoleum efforts were made to repair and renovate it, despite those efforts it is in bad shape and needs extensive work. Two historical preservation specialists have become involved and have submitted a detailed report specifying what needs to be done, to restore the mausoleum. The work will include a new roof, repair of the interior, pointing stone blocks, and repair and installation of windows and doors. The cost of the project is projected to be $1,280,000.

There are 425 persons interred in the mausoleum and respect for them makes this project crucial. Tax deductible donations are being solicited in order to defray the cost of the renovations.
